How does CBD oil work?

The consumption of CBD oil is growing in popularity across the UK every day. While that consumption continues to grow, it may be daunting to those that have never experienced using CBD before.

Many of our customers reach out to us before they place their first order to ask, “how does CBD oil work?” and specifically, how can it benefit them?

So we want to help answer your queries and help you make an informed decision about using CBD oil.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD stands for cannabidiol, an all-natural compound found solely in cannabis plants. This type of compound is non-psychoactive, meaning that you will not feel ‘high’ after using it, which makes it perfect for therapeutic use. CBD oil is a carrier oil, typically MCT or hemp seed oil, containing CBD extract.

How does CBD Oil work?

The human body has an Endocannabinoid System, or ECS for short, that translates signals from cannabinoids through thousands of receptors in our brain, central nervous system and immune system. The ECS was discovered only recently in the 1990s and is thought to be one of the most vital receptor systems and is widely recognised as a crucial system for sustaining good health and function of the brain and immune systems.

The ECS regulates many bodily functions, such as appetite, sleep, pain sensitivity and immune system responses. When cannabinoids from plants enter the body, they interact with our ECS receptors in the same way our internal cannabinoids do. The cannabinoids activate these signals and provide a host of benefits.

The extraction of natural remedies has revolutionised the stigma around using recreational marijuana or hemp products. It has allowed us all to reap the benefits of CBD with the associated ‘high’ that you get with traditional hemp products.

The Health Benefits of CBD Oil

In recent years, CBD oil has gained popularity due to its potential health benefits and usage in alternative medicine. CBD oil is often used for pain relief, anxiety, stress reduction and to promote a better quality of sleep

There have been many promising studies about more specific use cases for taking CBD for health and wellness, including:

… and more! As scientists dedicate more time to exploring the benefits of CBD, we expect to see this list increasing quite a bit!

CBD Oil Dosage and Consumption Methods

The best way to take CBD oil is orally, typically placing 2-4 drops under your tongue. Avoid taking them with water, as this can dilute their effectiveness as your body absorbs the oil. You should hold the drops there for up to 60 seconds before swallowing. Then you can continue your eating and drinking habits as normal.

At Prym Health, we offer two strengths of CBD oil depending on your requirements, tolerance and experience with CBD oil.

Alternatives to CBD Oil

There are many ways to take CBD, including orally, topically and via inhalation. Topical CBD products, such as CBD patches, suppositories, roll-on, etc., work best for localised CBD benefits, such as pain relief or reducing inflammation. CBD Oil Side Effects and Precautions

The side effects of taking CBD oil are generally mild and rare, but it is always important to use caution and follow dosing instructions carefully.

Some individuals have reported side effects such as dry mouth, drowsiness, changes in appetite, and diarrhoea when taking CBD oil. So if you experience any of these, we recommend you stop taking CBD oil and see a healthcare professional.

CBD can also interact with certain medications, so it is important to consult your GP or pharmacist before using CBD oil.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is not recommended to take CBD oil due to limited studies on the impact this can have on mum and baby. We would recommend consulting your midwife or GP to discuss this further.
